CANADA (Ontario) legality of a 50+ cc gas engine kit that can be added to a bicycle frame. does not match the charectoristics of a LSM or power-assisted bicycle. No laws which state it is illegal. CANADA. would I be able to make up some bs to get past the cops if i were stopped?

  1. Looks pretty cut and dry to me.

If the motor is internal combustion you have to comply with the motor cycle regulations. (including Low speed motor cycles).

If it is electric, then you have the option of complying with power-assisted bicycle legislation.

The onus is on YOU to make the vehicle legal. So if it doesn't comply with any legislation then it is illegal.

Getting past the cops will depend on, how dumb the cops are, you grasp and dedication to the art of Bulls hit, or a combination of both. ( I wouldn't rely on cops being dumb)

Maybe using a gas motor to charge your battery might qualify as "power assisted". (don't like the chances though)

My tip is get fit and forget about the assistance. A fit rider can just about keep up with a power assisted bike and will have more range. You get to enjoy refuelling (eating) a bit more also.
