Canadian men smash T&T by 7-2 at the Pan American Games
The Canadian national men’s hockey team started its Pan American campaign on a winning note as it lashed the Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) outfits by 7-2 in the opening Pool A match of the event, played in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Thursday, October 20.
The match was played in a highly entertaining and an exciting environment where both the teams played aggressively from the very beginning of the game.
Although T&T got an early lead in the opening moments of the match, it was entirely a Canadian show thereafter.
Canada scored four goals in the first thirty five minutes while three in the second half, conceding only two strikes in the first half but none in the second.
The Canadian athletes looked pretty impressive during the entire course of action as they played an attacking game throughout the match. They were also pretty solid in their defence as they did not offer too many chances to the opponents.
The T&T men, in fact, proved no match for the Canadian athletes who remained dominant throughout the seventy minutes of play.
The first half began with great action by the T&T team as it took just a few seconds to open its account, with Christopher Scipio netting the ball in the 1st minute of the first half.
The field beauty from Christopher put T&T ahead of its opponents but the lead lasted only for a few seconds, as the Canadian men equalised the score in the very next minute.
Matthew Guest contributed to the score board for Canada with an astonishing field strike in the 2nd minute.
However, both the teams were unable to break the tie for some time, continuing the match in a tight tempo until the last ten minutes of the first half.
Once again, both the teams fought very hard to gain the lead but it was Canada that succeeded in its plans.
The Canadian men were awarded a penalty corner in the 26th minute on which Scott Tupper made no mistake and, yet again, put his team into the much awaited lead.
The Canadians appeared to be flying in the ending minutes of the first half, as they found the T&T net twice before the interval.
The third Canadian goal was scored in the 29th minute by Lain Smythe, followed by another splendid piece of dribbling skills in the next minute by the same scorer.
However, just before the break, T&T brought the Canadian lead down when Kwandwane Browne converted a penalty corner into their second goal in the 35th minute.
The second half was again a completely Canadian show, where they started perfectly by finding their way into the T&T circle.
Matthew Guest made it 5-2 while scoring his second in the 37th minute followed by his third in the 46th minute.
Canada concluded the game after Philip Wright made the score 7-2 in the 62nd minute.
