Canadian mommies: Bath ring-style seats?

These ones? http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/pubs/cons/bath_seat-sieges_de_bain-eng.php

Did they actually ban them? I can't find them anywhere.

And before everyone gets all up in arms, yes I get that they aren't safety devices. But my toddler's favourite bath toy is his baby brother (9 months) and its nice that they can take long baths and actually get alone. But I would rather not have to have one hand on baby at all times. It makes washing the toddler a wee bit hard.

  1. I remember those...my brother had one about 15 years ago.  I can honestly say I've never noticed them in stores but I've also never used one...my 11-month-old son is still surprisingly tolerant of lying on his sling while I clean him before he sits up to splash.  I found this one on toysrus.ca:  http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?...

Worst case scenario you could order it online, right?

  2. Not Canadian, but they actually do still sell them in the U.S.

I purchased one at Walmart about 3-4 months ago.

  3. Not a canadian mommy... but in the US, they do not sell those in stores.  I purchaced mine from a woman at work.  I've got the simple blue one with the 3 colored rings on the bar....

Common sense... people really thought those products would be safety devices?!  My  now 18 month old could get out of it at a year old!

  4. you know I dont know...I just saw one at a garage sale and there is one for sale on Kijiji (edmonton).  I havent seen any at the stores though!!  Check Kijiji, you might luck out!!!

  5. I saw some at Wal-Mart (in Winnipeg) a few weeks ago...the foam bottom kind.

I don't think they're banned, but I think they've just put out a 'strong warning'.

My third is 8 mos, and the older two are 2 and 5...I don't know quite how I'd get them all bathed without it...they're mighty slippery when wet!!

The people who wrote the warning are welcome to bathe my 8 month old without one whenever they'd like...as long as I get to videotape it so I can laugh later.  :)

And like you said, they're not safety devices...more like sanity devices!  It doesn't take a rocket surgeon* to know not to leave babies and small children unattended in the tub, seat or not.

  6. Well, I'm in the US, but I had a hard time finding them too.  I found a similar style at Wal-Mart, but it was not as nice as the ring ones that completely spin around, these are more stationary.  I had to go through my order history to find it, but here is a link, apparently they don't sell them anymore, but it doesn't give a reason why:

I did find a bunch of them on eBay.  I think it's kinda like the bumbo seat issue, if used properly it is totally safe, but if the child is left unattended, that's when it becomes a danger.

  7. I don't know if they banned them or not (I'm in Ontario FYI), but I got one second hand... one of the round ones with the sponge cushion. It was great when he was little and could sit up, but not good enough to be unsupported. Of course I never left him alone, that's the reason they are hazardous for sure. I can't tell you where to buy them, but maybe try second hand places? Value Village, Sally Anne, March of Dimes?
