Canadian national volleyball team set to play Junior Pan Am Cup men’s final
The Canadian national volleyball team has secured itself a ticket into the final of the Junior Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball tournament which will be played today, June 27.
The Canadian team has had an impressive journey so far getting to the final in Panama. They have earned themselves victories that have increased their confidence and have done their fans proud. Canada was up against the Dominican Republic in the quarter-final,
which was played on Saturday and ended in a smothering win for the Canadians as they were able to make a clean sweep over their opponents. Not only did the Canadian team win the match in three back to back sets, they also won each set by a considerable margin.
By the time that the Canadians were done, the final set scores stood at 25-17, 25-14 and 25-16.
Two Canadian players, Nicholas Hoag and Bradley Kufske, shared the limelight during the match and gave their team the edge.
After a straight set victory the Canadians repeated the feat and pulled off another sweep in the semi-finals on Sunday, June 26. Chile was at the receiving end of the Canadian onslaught, as the Canucks snapped their winning streak in the tournament. However,
Chile gave the Canadians tougher competition than the Dominican Republic as the final set scores stood at the following points: 25-17, 25-18 and 25-23.
In the Chile match, Hoag once again played a key role in propelling the Canadian team towards victory. He was able to register a total of 11 kills and a service ace for his team. Hoag also contributed by making two blocks. Kufske and Daniel Moreau were able
to make their presence felt by adding 11 points each.
The Canadians had made a slow start in the tournament and no one could say for certain that the team would reach the final match. In the round robin matches, the team had scrapped off a third place finish. However, with an overall record of 3-2, Canada is
all set to take on their opponents and grab the championship title by sheer force of will.
