Canadian pairs ready for beach volleyball scrimmage on home courts - SWATCH Quebec Open
The 2011 SWATCH FIVB Quebec Open Jeep Tournament is just around the corner as the double-gender event is scheduled to start Tuesday, July 19. The SWATCH FIVB International Beach Volleyball event is returning to the town of Quebec after three years after
the last competition was held in 2007. Around 103 beach volleyball pairs from 29 countries of the world have registered their names in the double gender competition.
The St-Jean Berchmans and Seminaire des Peres Maristes in the Quebec borough of Sillery is ready to stage the Country Quota Playoffs on the opening day of the tournament. The home country will be represented by 11 men’s and 10 women’s duos in the competition.
The following seven tandems will open the tournament today:
Francois-Guy Allaire/ Michael Plantinga Francis Cuillerier/ Dominique Lague Simon Fecteau-Boutin/ Cameron Wheelan Maverick Hatch/ Sam Schachter Andrew Hinchey/ Ryan Vandenburg Felipe Humana-Paredes/ Grant O'Gorman Charles-Antoine Séguin/Samuel Surprenant
These are the low ranking duos and most of the players will make their debut in the competition. Besides the young crop of Canadian players, there are experienced players who will open the game in Main-Draw. The higher ranking Canadian men’s teams include
duo of Josh Binstock and Richard Van Huizen, Martin Reader and Chaim Schalk, and Christian Redmann/Ben Saxton. The duo of Christian Redmann and Ben Saxton is considered the best team on Canadian side. Local fans are expecting a lot from the Redmann/Saxton.
On the other hand, a total of 10 best Canadian female teams will fight for home-prestige in the women’s section. The women’s event will also start with the Country Quota Playoffs. Following six teams will have to go through the early stage of Country Quota

The remaining four teams with better ranking points on the FIVB World Chart will start the campaign directly in the Main Draw. Well known Canadian duo of Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney have a lot of hopes of doing well in the competition. Similaraly,
the pairing of Marie-Andree Lessard and Annie Martin is determined to save the country’s reputation. Kacie MacTavish and Julie Rodrigue are generally considered an average team but they have got the talent to make a difference.
The home teams will have the advantage of playing under familiar conditions. Besides, local fans will be there to back them up and provide emotional support, in order to sustain the pressure. The entry for Country Quota matches is free and anybody can go
and have a nice time in the afternoon.
