Jordan Eberle is a professional ice hockey player from Canada, who plays as the forward for Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL) and he has now re-signed with them for another six years.
The six year’s deal is worth $36 million, which means he will get an average of $6 million every year. Eberle still had a year left with his previous contract which was a three year entry level deal, which he signed two years ago in 2010-2011.
The 20-year-old right winger is Oilers’ second long term signing after they signed 20-year-old forward Taylor Hall in a seven year deal for exactly $6 million an year like Eberle. Taylor’s deal was done just few days back on 22nd August.
Talking in a conference call on Thursday, the Regina, Saskatchewan native was very happy and excited. He was especially very happy that Taylor also got signed and he was expecting his deal to be done too. He told the excitement in the Oilers’ camp and the
ambitions that he has got with them, as he said,
"Obviously I'm pretty excited. With Taylor getting his done last week, I was pretty anxious. I'm happy to be an Oiler ... and I think with the direction the team's going it's pretty obvious that there's a lot of excitement level around Edmonton and throughout
our locker room.
Edmonton Oilers’ general manager, Steve Tambellini was very happy while talking to the team’s official website. He expressed his happiness on the latest signings and told how proud he is to sign these excellent players, as he said,
"I'm happy for the organization and I'm proud of Jordan because he deserves it. He's a young man that is totally committed to what we're trying to accomplish here”.
One more thing that Oilers would like is that their new youngster signings are themselves and looking forward to win, being a main part of the team. The 5-foot-11, 184 pounder Eberle clarified it as he said,
"We're stating that we want to be here, we want to be the core guys of this team that help us win”.
