Canadian right winger Nathan Horton’s recovery may play a huge role for Boston Bruins in NHL
Nathan Horton, a Canadian forward who plays for Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL), would be key to his side if they are to improve their showing and repeat their Stanley Cup winning performance of 2010-2011 season.
In 2010-2011 season, Horton had played a huge role in Stanley Cup win of Bruins. The 27-year-old had scored 53 points in the regular season after playing 80 games, 26 of which were goals and 27 were assists. His best performance came in the playoffs where
he lifted his team very well and scored 17 points in the 21 games, scoring eight goals and nine assists.
One of the major reasons for Bruins loss in the first round of the playoffs was Horton’s absence. The Welland, Ontario native played in the 46 regular season games and scored 17 goals, 15 assists for total of 32 points, which helped Boston take first place
in their Northeast Division and second in the Eastern Conference.
The major reason of Horton’s absence have been concussions that he suffered in last two seasons and it is still not confirmed if he would return in time before season starts to play again.
At the conference where he confirmed that head coach Claude Julien’s contract has been extended, general manager of the Boston Bruins, Peter Chiarelli believed that his player will back in time before the season starts as he had said,
"Our medical staff says he'll be ready to go when we start playing”.
There was the same uncertainity last season when it was sure if Horton would be able to recover in time or not. On January 12, last season Horton told ESPNBoston.com
"The start of the season, definitely the concussion was an issue. I definitely wasn't myself and didn't feel the way I wanted to. It wasn't, like I said then, like post-concussion syndrome or something like that I think, but more me just trying to get my
timing and confidence back and, yeah, maybe being a bit hesitant with my physical game”.
The 6-foot-2, 215 pounder would love to improve his brilliant stats in NHL as he has scored 185 goals, 195 assists and 380 total points in 548 games.
