Canadian swimmers stuns at the Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials – Part 2
After the commendable efforts of their local swimmers in the opening events of the championship, the focus shifted towards the remaining events of the first day.
The sixth event of the first day was Women’s 100m butterfly Para S8-10, where Katarina Roxon S9SB8SM9 went full rampant in the double lap event and confirmed her spot in the Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Roxon remained in a lead of almost two seconds over her subsequent competitor and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 16.24 seconds. Her gruelling effort remained 2.07 seconds ahead of Jenna Skieneh S9B9M9, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by concluding her swim in a time of 1 minute and 18.31 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by B Jennett-McNeil 10910, who remained considerably slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 19.77 seconds.
Jennett was chased by Morgan Bird S8SB8SM8, who stayed almost two seconds slower and settled on the wall as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 21.11 seconds.
The seventh event of the session was Men’s 200m freestyle, where Blake Worsley snared top position of the event by completing his race in a time of 1 minute and 49.06 seconds. His gold winning effort remained nearly seven second behind the world record of 1 minute and 42.00 seconds, set by Paul Biedermann of Germany in 2009.
His effort also remained almost three seconds slower from the national record of 1 minute and 46.40 seconds, set by Brent Hayden at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The champion remained almost two seconds ahead of Chad Bobrosky, who hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 49.33 seconds for silver medal. The third position of the discipline was obtained by Hassaan Abdel-Khalik, who ended his swim in third place by posting a time of 1 minute and 49.59 seconds.
Tobias Oriwol was sighted as the fourth best finisher of the discipline as he remained marginally slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 49.62 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 50m butterfly Para S1-7, where Brianna Nelson proved her audacity for gold medal of the event  by touching the wall in a time of 40.51 seconds. Nelson was followed by Sarah Mehain S7SB7SM7, who tried hard to overcome her efforts over the finishing end but remained just a touch away and ended second by hitting the wall with an effort of 40.54 seconds.
The third spot of the race was captured by S McDougall S7SB6SM7, who ended her race in a time of 55.42 seconds. S Couture emerged as the fourth position holder of the event as she clocked a time of 1 minute and 02.47 seconds.
Last event of the first session was Women’s 4*200m freestyle, where relay team of UCSC won gold medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 20.86 seconds.
They were trailed by relay squad of EKSC, which remained nearly two seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 22.44 seconds for silver medal while OSC’s team finished third with an effort of 8 minutes and 23.77 seconds.
