Canadian swimmers stuns at the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials – Part 5
Canadian swimmers continued their splendid performances on third day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials, as they were eager to book their spot in the Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The session included playoffs of 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 100m breaststroke in the Men and Women’s category.
The first event of the session was Women’s 200m freestyle, where Barbara Jardin served notice of her talent and outperformed her challengers by clocking a time of 1 minute and 57.34 seconds for gold medal.
Her marvellous effort was chased by Samantha Cheverton, who claimed silver medal of the discipline by ending her pace in a time of 1 minute and 57.98 seconds. With her notable struggle, Cheverton stayed marginally ahead of Brittany MacLean, who occupied
bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 58.09 seconds.
Next was the Men’s 400m freestyle, where Ryan Cochrane booked his spot to London by seizing gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 3 minutes and 47.07 seconds. His gold winning effort was followed by Chad Bobrosky, who remained almost five seconds
away and reached the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 3 minutes and 52.65 seconds.
Bobrosky was followed by Alec Page, who stayed considerably slower from his former finisher and emerged on the victory stand for bronze medal by posting a time of 3 minutes and 53.20 seconds.
The third event of the session was Women’s 100m breaststroke, where Jillian Tyler snared top position of the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 07.18 seconds. The gold medallist was followed by Tera Van Beilen, who also confirmed her place to London
Games by occupying silver medal of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 07.37 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Martha McCabe, who proved her eligibility for the third fastest spot of the race by ending her swim in a time of 1 minute and 08.12 seconds.
Subsequently, fourth event of the session was Men’s 200m breaststroke, where Dickens occupied gold medal of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.69 seconds. He was followed by Jason Block, who hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.16
seconds for silver medal.
Third spot of the event was obtained by Richard Funk, who stayed almost half a second slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.59 seconds.
Following that, Benoit Huot S10SB9SM10 dominated Men’s 400m freestyle Para S6-13 by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 08.93 seconds. His meticulous effort remained nearly twelve seconds ahead of I Bouckley S10SB9SM10, who pocketed silver medal of the discipline
by posting a time of 4 minutes and 20.29 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Devin Gotell 131313, who remained almost six seconds behind and produced a time of 4 minutes and 26.45 seconds.
Afterwards, A Rivard S10SB9SM10 captured gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle Para S6-13 by posting 4 minutes and 42.16 seconds. Her effort was followed by B Jennett-McNeil 10910 and J Leblanc-Normand 10910, who ended their swims in second and third
place with timings of 4:57.24 and 5:11.72 minutes, respectively.
Furthermore, the winners received medals for their noteworthy efforts at prize ceremony of the championship.
