Canadian team line-up finalised for Pan Am Games – Volleyball news
The Canadian roster for the Pan Am Games has been decided and announced recently. The tournament is scheduled to start from October 15 and will last until the 29th of the month in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Canadian team consists of four Alberta players. This includes Ciaran McGovern, who belongs to Grande Prairie, Spencer Leiske from Lacombe, Blair Bann from Edmonton and last but not the least, Tanner Nault from Sherwood Park.
There are also players from Ontario as well which include Reid Halpenny from Grand Bend, the Londoner Sander Ratsep and a player from Kingston, Tyler Santoni.
The head coach of the Canadian squad is Vincent Pichette.
Julien Boucher, who is the high performance director of Volleyball Canada made the following comments about the upcoming Pan Am Games: “We haven’t set any goals in terms of performance for these Games. This is going to be a great experience for our players.
The Pan Ams are always a very strong tournament and this is one of the biggest sports gatherings outside the Olympic Games.’’
The Canadians have been slotted for Group B in the tournament. The Group A teams consists of Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina as well as Cuba.
It will not be until the second week of the Games that the men’s volleyball team will make a show of their performance as Canada’s first round robin match is scheduled to take place on the 24th October against the Brazilian side. After that, Canada
will be next in line for the Americans on the 25th October. The Puerto Ricans will be playing the Canadians on the 26th October. In case the Canadians get to be the top team in Group B, they will earn themselves a bye into the semi-final
round of the tournament. The teams that secure the second and the third slots in each of the groups will be facing each other in the quarter-final round of the championship. However, the two teams that come at the bottom of each group will find themselves
eliminated from the Pan Am Games.
