Do they not look at your 9th year marks, or are they a secondary thing?

  1. They would only look past grade ten marks if they needed to break a tie.  I don't think they look at grade ten marks very often.

  2. Yes, this is true.  That would be your High School Transcript of Marks covering Grades 10 to 12.  No one ever looks at anything before that, ever.  Hmmm, wonder what that says about our education?

  3. They don't usuallly pay much attention to the 9th and 10th year marks - 11 and 12 are what counts and many young people don't do well in grade nine because they move from a smaller middle school to a large high school and it takes time for them to adjust, both to the size of the institution and to the difference in teaching styles. In middle school, there is still a lot of hand-feeding going on, but in senior high, they have to learn to study, to research and to meet deadlines, in a way they didn't in the lower grades. So, if you had crummy marks in grade 9 but brought them 'way up by 11 or 12, there would be no point in counting those earlier marks.

If, on the other hand, you were borderline with your 11 and 12 marks, they migh glance at the 9 and 10 marks to see if you were just a borderline student all the way through, or if your marks have been dropping in the senior grades, in which case, they may consider rejecting your application.

  4. As far as I know, it's grades 11 and 12 that are really looked at by universities.

  5. yup its true.  The main universities only look at grades 11 and 12 (maybe grade 10 for some).  But they really focus on Grade 12
