Canadians: Now that a man was stabbed 50 times and beheaded on a greyhound, should security now be mandatory?

I'm thinking, this kid's death could have been prevented. People are asking why didn't anyone help the boy that was getting brutally murdered but in reality, no one brings any defense equipment on the bus! I think that maybe now greyhound should open their eyes and have security onboard their busses and metal detectors before they get on the bus. It's sad that one man's life had to be taken for action (if any is going to be taken at all). Apparently they might not do anything. I just don't understand why?!??!

i'm from manitoba and had to take the bus to travel from the north to the south lots. little towns along manitoba don't usually have bus depots. they wait on the side of the road and get picked up by the bus. it would be very tough for one bus driver to keep track of what everyone is bringing on that bus. there are also a million stops when you're on the bus for food and fuel. anyone could go into a restaurant to grab a bag of chips and steal a knife along their way. i'm not sure what really can be done to offer the kind of security you're suggesting. i think that the driver should have a second party with him, recording devices, pick ups along the highways stopped, and no more breaks off the bus. once you're on the bus, you stay on the bus and no more carry on luggage except for medical or baby needs. i've seen people drinking alcohol on long bus rides, coming on intoxicated and some of those stops along the highway for pick ups are scary.

You people really want a Police State don't you?  Ban metal objects and they'll just use plastic box cutters.  Ban plastic weapons and they'll use gasoline.  Ban gasoline and they'll just use a rope.  The problem is deeper than having a $10 an hour Security Guard check every single person...  Our society doesn't have the time to do it.  The bus driver doesn't have time for all that c**p.  He has to wake up in the morning and worry about all sorts of kife like traffic, getting there on time, road conditions.  You're not going to cure all the hate in the world with metal detectors..

Should a police car follow school buses now? While both things are tragic...the solution might be. You kill somebody on purpose, you face the death penalty. Not a 3 meal a day living quarters.

If people can bring decapitation equipment on the bus then obviously they can bring defense equipment.  It's pathetic that not one person even tried to help.

no you kids think everything can be prevented . think what would have happened if several people on the bus had a handgun. . most people with only their hands will not go up against someone with a knife.
