Question:

Canadians - Why do we tip at Tim Hortons, but not other fast food places?

I don't understand why people will leave good tips at Tim Hortons, for a coffee no less, and never at any other fast food places, where (as far as I'm concerned) they work harder and have to put up with more grief. Why do we tip for a mere coffee, but not for a full fast food meal?

  1. I've never tipped Tim's

  2. one tim hortons has real fast and good sevice, and a coffee is only a doller something, so you have extra cash to give out, which at a fast food could cost you ,say, 6.00, that makes for an expensive meal with a doller tip.

  3. Cuz Tim Horton is the God of Hockey and Donuts

*and this coming from a Panthers and Islanders fan* :D

Sorry, I just really read the question....not Canadian, but I love Tim's doughnuts!

  4. I tip at Tim Horton's because they work really hard to prepare the food that is ordered ie. sandwiches. Also even if I get a coffee I like to show appreciation to the counter staff who work for so little and put up with so much. I know. I work in the service industry and I put up with alot of B.S. on a daily basis.

  5. Tim Hortons' employees are allowed to accept tips, but McDonalds' employees aren't. Anyone who's allowed to will! Also (at least in Quebec) employees who get tips get paid less than minumum wage.

I worked at Dunkin' Donuts, and even though I sucked enough to get fired after two days, I did pull in around 2 dollars an hour in tips, much more than the difference between normal-minimum-wage and tip-minimum-wage.
