Canadians play each other in Vancouver Four-Nation Classic
In an unparalleled way, the National Women’s hockey team of Canada played against A Team (Development Squad) in the on-going Four-Nation Classic hockey tournament that took place in Vancouver, Canada, on July 16 .
The National squad scored three goals against the two of their rivals and won the interesting match of the tournament.
The results were as per the anticipations; however, the Development squad showed brilliant defence which was contrary to the expectations.
The Development (A) team of Canada not only showed an impressive defence, but also displayed fast and striking game in the opening minutes. The fast-paced attack not only enthralled the on-lookers, but also astounded the National team. With seconds into
the game, the junior squad took the ball inside the D-line and unleashed a powerful shot. However, Azelia Liu, the custodian of national team, was active enough to clear the ball from the circle.
With six minutes into the match, Thea Culley of National squad managed to get the ball at the acme of the circle and slammed an excellent shot that hit the back-board. It was the opening action that enhanced the confidence of the National side in the game.
In the very next minute, the Canadian line-up accomplished an attack, but it was blocked from the other side.
The Development team in the later time managed a counter-offence and had it all even at one-all. Following a gleaming pass to the centre-half position, Kim Scraper received a ball at the right flank and sent a tap into the corner of the goal. It was a point
that enhanced the enchantment for the onlookers.
Regardless of the seniority, the National team faced tough time from the juniors in the match. They tested the defence line of development team in the later time, but Kaitlyn Williams was enough energetic to deny the efforts.
With seconds left on the strike, the junior line-up made an attempt and expanded the lead in the hands of Azelia Liu, who received a productive pass from Michelle Weber. The National Team did not want to go in the second half by trailing a single goal, therefore
they started speedy efforts in search of tie-up.
They succeeded in their efforts by receiving a short-corner, which was converted in the hands of Thea Culley, and closed out the round at two-all dead-lock.
The second half completely belonged to National Team of Canada which scored a single goal, while holding the Development Team scoreless in the period. After an end-to-end play, Jesslyn Walkey managed a field goal in the 63rd minute and sealed
the victory for national side by 3-2.
