my husband is about to get out of the military, and we are both a little scared to find out where we are going to move to we are currently in San Diego CA, my folks are here, but he's from WA, and we dont like it here in CA. anyways, my husband got a couple job offers, all over the place, but the one that seems that will be the best pick is in Canada.

I dont know anything about canada excet that it is Big and to the north.

What type of things should i know about Canada, if i were to move there? And would i have to get a passport to move there?

pls any information would be very helpful

Thank you all in advance.

  1. First of all, you would require the appropriate paper work be completed.  The type would depend on whether you are moving temporarily or permanently.  I would suggest that you contact the Canadian Consulate in San Diego to clarify your requirements.

As for information about Canada, it would depend on what part you are planning on moving to.  Canada, as you said is big and the climate and terrain vary dramatically as you travel around the country.  Of course we are farther north so the average temperature is cooler than most of the US although temperatures in the US mid-west are significantly colder during the winter than they are where I live in British Columbia.  Perhaps you could post additional information on where you are looking at moving to.  That would assist those answering the question to give you more specific answers.

  2. More North = more salary , more expensive, bad/worst weather

    More West = more salary , more/most expensive, better/best

    weather

More South East= good salary, less expensive, so and so weather

More East = ( sorry I have the least info. on this, but) extreme weather (COLD winter, HOT summer)

P.S: By those directions I mean on the map, and all based on experience.

  3. You would no doubt need appropriate paperwork to move to Canada, you may either request an extended stay or gain canadian citizen ship. The best place to adapt from San Diego weather would be on the coast of Vancouver, ex. Surrey is 10 mins from the border (to washington), weather is fair, not hot (unless summer) & not cold (lowest -10 Celcius). It is alot more expensive to live here, they recently are increasing the minimum wage from $8.25 to $10 here in BC
