I recently bought a stainless fluted mold about 3" wide and 12" long with a removable round cover on each end.

I think it has to do with baking fancy breads inside - but maybe its something else

Put on your chef's hats and help me figure out what is this thing...

  1. It is to bake bread in.  Use a loaf of the Pillsbury canned French Bread, grease inside well, slip dough in, grease lids, and bake standing upright in the oven as directed on label.   You then let it cool, and can slice it (elec. knife works great here) into shaped slices for baguettes, spreads, appetizers, or fun sandwiches.

  2. Does it look like this?

You can bake bread in it, yes but you could also use it as a canape stamp. Arrange some luncheon meats, breads, cheeses on your work surface and then start stamping until the tube is full. Push the contents out with a long handled wooden spoon. Obviously, you'll end up with a 10-inch tall canape, but that's all I could come up with.
