Canaries dump Tractor Boys as Norwich City beat Ipswich Town - Championship Recap
Norwich City steadied their chances of making it to the next year’s Premier League football after the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Canaries-c38723 sliced Ipswich town in to five halves. The match was held on Thursday, April 21 at Portman Road. Norwich sealed a comfortable 5-1 away win over
the rusty Tractor Boys.
Ipswich went in with a 4-3-3 formation. Connor Wickham, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Jewell’s side.
Norwich on the other hand went in with a famous 4-4-2 formation. Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson were put upfront by manager Paul Lambert while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Ruddy-c18892 had the responsibility of guarding Canaries' net.
Norwich got the game underway and had a glorious opportunity in just the second minute, when Holt mistimed his header. Ipswich found themselves on the back foot right from the word go and had no answers to Norwich’s attacking instincts. The mid-fielder,
David Fox, got himself booked as early as in the 10th minute for a late tackle on David Norris, which wasn’t really required at that stage. Ipswich launched an attack from nowhere and Wickham saw his shot go well over the bar. This attack came as
a surprise for Norwich players who certainly were in ascendency. The Canaries made great use of their ball possession and mid-fielder, Andrew Surman, earned Norwich a 1-0 advantage on the 13th minute mark.
Norwich continued to attack, as the Tractor Boys were finding it really difficult to clear their lines. This constant pressure resulted in Norwich’s corner. Gareth McAuley’s presence in Ipswich’s defence proved fatal for his team’s own cause as his attempt
to clear the ball struck the post and went inside the net. This stretched the Canaries' advantage to 2-0 on the 24th minute mark.
Ipswich were not given enough space to press forward as their numerous attempts to make a run failed mostly in the mid-way. There were no further goals in the first half as the referee blew his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to a close.
The Blues almost made a come-back in the match when mid-fielder, Jimmy Bullard, was presented with a relatively easy chance in the opening moments of the second half, but his shot went wide of the post. Jewell’s side looked more determined in the second
half and made numerous attempts to mark a come-back, but were continuously kept at bay by Norwich’s back four. The Canaries for the first time in the game seemed a bit rusty.
All Ipswich hopes of making a return suffered a serious blow when Jackson managed to deal with Holt’s cross and guided the ball into the back of the net on the 72nd minute mark. With only a quarter of the game remaining and Ipswich trailing by
a 3-0 margin, it all looked bleak for the Tractor Boys. The Blues though did not gave up and Bullard riffled his shot past Ruddy, which was a real cracker from the Englishman. The goal came on the 76th minute mark which made the score line 3-1.
Ipswich were hardly given any time to rejoice after that goal, as the youngster Russell Martin pounced upon Wes Hoolahan’s cross to make it 4-1 in the 78th minute. The rout finally came to an end in the fourth minute of injury time when on-loan
mid-fielder from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Pacheco-c10045, slammed his shot into the net for Norwich’s fifth of the evening. It was the striker’s first goal in English football and it also brought the game to an end which was a disaster to say the least for the Tractor Boys.
Norwich have now climbed up to the second spot with 77 points overtaking Cardiff City in the table. Ipswich find themselves 12th on the table with 59 points and both teams have three games in hand before the season ends.
Norwich City will take on Derby County while Ipswich Town will face Swansea City in their next game on Monday, April 25.
