I have a female canary about two years old and is now building her nest for the first time and she has been getting the nesting materials from the newspaper from the bottom of the cage and from the small strings that we gave her however, she had recently vomited in her food bowl and I was wondering why? Currently our assumption is that she has been accidentally "eating" the newspaper that she has torn out from the bottom of the cage. Please help! (Side Note: She has been fluffing up lately plus she has a tired look)

  1. She's probably regergitating her food in prep for her babies but you might want to ask a vet anyway.

  2. she might be egg bound.  call a vet who is familiar with birds.  you can look one up on aav.org

  3. Merry meet,

It isn't really anything to worry about.  Your hen is regurgitating it's food.  This is how they feed their chicks.  Some species do this to the hen while she's incubating the eggs.  Be sure to give your canary extra calcium during the egg laying period.

If your still concerned, call your vet in the morning and they'll let you know if you should bring your hen in.

    Hope this was helpful.

  4. Look up your local avian or small animal vet. They can consult over the phone and let you know if this is a serious matter
