  1. dont get discouraged!! canberra is sooo peaceful, i think its a good place to live!! in sydney and stuff, you always have traffic and its really fast-paced, but in canberra, ur just chilling with everything. we have two main entertainment events a year, Floriade and the Royal Canberra Show. theyre both really good and fun. sadly, canberras quite far in of the coast, so the beaches are about 3 - 4 hours away, but its worth the drive, even if its only for a day or two.

Good Luck At Uni, And Enjoy Canberra!!!

  2. Canberra is the most boring city in Australia. I don't envy you. See if you can chnage to a university in Sydney or Melbourne.

  3. Hi,

Canberra is a great place to visit and also a great place to live. The best thing about it is it's Australia's Nations Capital (which is where I'm from).

We have plenty of things to offer visitors to the Nations Capital such as national attractions such as the Australian War Memorial, National Museum of Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Questacon - Australia's Science and Technology Centre, AIS - Australian Insitute of Sports, Old Parliament House, Parliament House.

There are plenty of other things to see and do here in Canberra all year round such as festivals, markets, wine tours, bike riding, going for walks around Lake Burley Griffin and also going on the lake cruises.

A good time to come is during September and October when Floriade is on. It's a big flower show with lots of exhibits, markets stalls, shows on everyday.

This year there will be a night festival where you can come along at night and enjoy a movie, music and have dinner under the stars amongst the lit flower beds while enjoying the night markets.

Floriade is on from Saturday 13th September until Sunday 12 of October.

Floriade is our biggest event in Canberra and we attract thousands of visitors daily from all over Australia and internationally as well. Last year we got close to 400,000 which is a Floriade record since we first started 21 years ago.

  4. If you mean live on campus, I can't really comment as I've not done that. There are usually things happening on or near campus for entertainment.

The campus accommodation is close to the university. You could also rent or share a house. Although finding a place for students let alone anyone else is tough due to a housing crisis in Canberra.

Canberra is a 4 hour drive from the beach, so your best going to a pool or if your brave swimming in the lake(s) or the river.

There are several pools close to University of Canberra (UC). Cisac is closest, about 5mins walk away in Bruce.. Jamison Pool (if it is still running by the end of this year )is in the next suburb, 30mins walk. There is also the AIS pool for serious swimming also in Bruce and about 20mins walk.

Movies theatre, major shopping centre, sports facilities are all in the surrounding suburbs. The bus station also has links to other parts of the city and a lot of services run near the university anyway.

The local government site http://www.canberraconnect.act.gov.au should help
