Cancelling flights?

Me, my boyfriend and my son are meant to be going to Turkey for 2 weeks in September. However we have come into some money probles lately and don't think we can afford it.

Our friends booked the flights for us as we were going with them and staying at their villa.

Now that we're not going, can we cancel the flights? And if so will we still have to pay the full amount, or just a cancellation fee?

Depends on the airline and/or travel company.

However the sooner you cancel, the better the chance of getting something back.

You will certainly lose the deposits

If it is a package holiday the lead name on the booking will have to cancel on your behalf in writing.  All the tour operators or airllines have their own Terms and Conditions so nobody on here can really give you the specific answer without knowing this. If the flights and villa have been booked not as a package then if the villa owner is ligitimate you may also lose your deposit on this too. I am presuming you have Travel Insurance which at this point you should read very carefully. However, if it is because of  money problems your Insurance will not cover this but for example if your money shortage was due to official redundancy it usually covers things like this.

If you are not the lead name on the booking then your friend will need to cancel the flights for you as the company can only cancel people off bookings with a letter in writing from the lead passenger. At this stage you might be lucky and just loose your deposit but it depends on who you booked it with.

I would advise that you talk to your friend and get them to check the cancellation costs for you and then she/he would have to put it in writing to the company that booked it for you,
