Our children are 4 years old and 2 years old (girls). Any advices? Food, activities, tours, parks and etc? We are going on December 16. How is the weather there around this time? Would we be able to swim? What is the water temperature? How is local people to children? I have so many questions. This is our first time, and we will be there 3 full days. And we are staying at Gran Caribe Real Resort.

  1. Hi!!

We are going to Cancun the 15th thru the 21st and are also staying at the Gran Caribe Real!!  While I've been to Cancun several times, this is my first time at this hotel - so I don't know much about it.

The weather will most likely be in the mid 80's, but it can get a little chilly at night - so pack a light sweater or sweatshirts.  Yes, you will be able to swim in the pool AND the ocean.  The water's not real warm - but it's not freezing either.  Rather tepid.

The locals are usually wonderful with children and there will more than likely be other families there with children they can play with.  Most hotels (I don't know about this one) also have kids clubs and scheduled kids activities so the parents can have some free time.

You can purchase excursions/trips on your own (lots of websites) or the hotel will have tables set up in the lobby where you can coordinate & purchase from there.  All usually pick you up at the hotel & drop you off when your done.

DO NOT get trapped by someone in the airport selling excursions, timeshares, whatever else.  They will keep you for hours!!!  Remember, NO means NO and once you said it, politely, of course, keep walking to your destination.  Once you stop, they've got you!

I'd be glad to answer any specific questions you may have & maybe I'll see you by the pool!!

  2. Check to see if they have a kids camp. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough to swim. Purchase the swim rash guard for the kids. It's a top like a wet suit and it will keep them warm in the water, plus keep them from getting sun burned being on the beach.Do a search on rash guards for kids. Many sites come up. You might have time to order before you go.

The locals love the kids and everyone is very friendly.

    Enjoy your trip)

  3. If you're going to the ROYAL (not real?) resort then the resort will have TONS of activities for kids- good ones too!  They probably won't tire of the beach quickly either =) I first went to Cancun when I was 9- the water was as warm as a bath and battered me around delightfully!

  4. Hi,

You will have no problems with your children . With just three full days you will more than likely spend it in and around your hotel on the North end of "Zona Hotelera".

The Gran Caribe Real is on the beach side of Kukulacan Blvd. I'm sure you did the All-Inclusive package this gives you all the food options at the hotel's main dinning room and they have food for the kids. Food outside your hotel is plentiful there is even a Chili's.

The weather will be fine daytime temperature will be about 83-84 degrees F and the evenings will be cooler around 70 degrees F. The Caribbean Sea temperature will be around 78 degrees F, so swimming will be no problem. Your hotel has three outdoor pools for another option.

The locals will have no problems with children, most are aware that Cancun survives on tourism so they are all very cooperative.

For things to do, you'll find Ruins El Rey toward the South of your location. Interactive Aquarium Cancun at the La Isla Shopping Village. At the very South end of your location is Pargue Nuzuc Cancun, this is Cancun's version of a water park. For place's to visit outside your Hotel Zone are the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, Xcaret a costal water park, Xel-Ha (shell-Hah) is another-up-scale costal park.

NOTE: All of Cancun will take your US Dollar, you will receive Pesos in change. The exchange rate should be 10 Pesos to 1 US Dollar. If you use your Credit Card you will pay a 5% bank fee. All the Mexican Banks make this charge. Bring Cash or American Express Travelers checks. Am-Ex checks are accepted world wide.

From the airport a Taxi will cost you around $25-$30. You should try and make a deal for your transportation, a public bus system runs through the Cancun area your will want the bus that reads "Hoteles" or "Zona Hotelera".

Once at your hotel you can ride the bus around the Hotel Zone the bus will stop at your hotel and across the street. The bus will read "Ruta 1" or "Ruta 2" also "Hoteles" or "Zona Hotelera".

For shopping if you shop along the Hotel Zone you will pay top Dollar for your purchase's. Ride the Bus into the downtown area and shop along Ave Tulum and Ave Coba. Make sure you Bargin don't pay the initial asking price.

    Hope all this helps

  5. pp is kind and pacient with kisd, most hotels have activityes 4 children fron 4 and over. Weather is warm, mayb a bit cold at night, sea water is warm and its possible 2 swim with the girls cause theres almost no waves, if u want a really calmed sea (almost like a lake) u can go 2 akumal one day, guess girls will love it cause there r lil fishes and seashells.

b careful with food, i mean its not dangerous 4 eat it (4 ur health) but mayb ur not used 2 spicy food, eat a bit of all but not that much 2 have a stomach ache.

Places 2 visit: Xcaret, Hel Ha, Aktunchen, Tulum, Coba,Crococoon. There r travel reps in every hote, they can help u with this.
