Cancun, all inclusive or not?

I like the all inclusive so I know my total trip cost. Visiting different resturants and stores would be nice though. Are meals in resturants priced similiar to meals in the USA? Do stores in town sell food, beer, and drinks at reasonable prices? Or are prices real high becuase it's a tourists town?

  1. How do you select the RIGHT all-inclusive (All inclusive) hotel for YOU? Good question. Consider this. Some all-inclusive hotels have just one restaurant serving buffets with the food on plastic plates and plastic knives and forks. On the other hand some like Gran Caribe Real in Cancun offer nine restuarants including gourmet menu restaurants serving on china plates with silver forks and knives (now that's more like it) in addition to poolside snack bars. Some resorts have kids clubs for the little ones. Like Gran Costa Real; Gran Porto Real Playa del Carmen; Aquamarina; Copa Cobana Akumal. Can you enter the 3 month old in the kid's club? The answer is NO. Kids clubs begin at any hotel at 4 years of age. Nannies or babysiters are extra costs not included in the all-inclusive package.

Some not all of the all-inclusive resorts provide shows. Presidente in San Lucas for example one of the only all-inclusives in that area with different shows every night. Almost all the all-inclusives have activities from beach volleyball to bingo and other games.  But for the most of it, I do both, I like going all inclusive when the price is good, and other times, I simply enjoy going out for something different, if your traveling on a budget I would suggest to go All inclusive or you may find it too expensive.

    =)

  2. Try the Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun. Amazing all inclusive hotel. Close enough to the partying scene if you are into that, but far enough away to have a nice quite time on your own. Beautiful beach and wonderful staff! This particular hotel had about 4 or 5 different restaurants, from a basic cafe to a 4 star restaurant. Prices were very reasonable compared to the USA. We personally didn't ever leave the hotel because everything was right at our feet! Absolutely loved our stay here....

Check it out yourself at www.fiestaamericana.com

  3. Go all-inclusive.  It is usually a better deal.

The prices in the hotel zone are very expensive - it's like going to a touristy area in the US.  My friends bought 2 beers when we were in town and they were $7 each, and very small.  I'm sure that you can hunt around and find some reasonable local joints, but we didn't want all that work and we liked the idea of easy meals at our hotel.

We had 4 restaurants from which to choose for dinner, and one of those changed their meals each night (French night, Italian night, Mexican night, etc).  We didn't get a bit tired of the food, and it was all very yummy.

We drank a good bit too, and I know we would have gone broke drinking that much in town or paying by drink.

  4. All Inclusive is mostly about food and drink, so:

The simple answer is that if you plan on getting and staying drunk (or even drinking a lot, whether you get drunk or not) then an All Inclusive is the most cost efficient option.

If you prefer a vacation which is mostly limited to your resort, then once again AI is most convenient

If you prefer to explore and find out what's out there or you drink, but prefer something better than the 'house' liquor, then AI is a waste of money.

In addition, food can be gotten at very reasonable prices along the strip and at the convention center, and most certainly downtown - and eating at the same 2 or 3 hotel restaraunts just because you paid for the all inclusive gets old very fast as well.

  5. go all-inclusive so that you have the choice to go out

their prices are reasonable because they get a lot of Americans that don't stand for being ripped off (unlike us Brits)

  6. Lots of places try go gouge tourists.  check exchange rates and try to do some quick math before spending.  I find that local supermarkets have ready made meals that are very affordable.  If looking for restaurants, you might have to go "Off the beaten path".  Of course, that may not be the safest plan.  Ask at the hotel reception desk - they usually have favorite local watering holes!

  7. Cancun is a very nice place to vacation and if your on a resort you will find it has several restaurants within your resort and if you choose an all inclusive package, all meals and drinks (including alcohol) are free.

There are a lot of restaurants in Cancun but be very careful when choosing them, the water in Cancun is not safe to drink unless it has a purifying system on it, like in the resorts.

The alchohol is cheep in Mexico and the food is not as expensive as in nice restaurants in the US but there are some very expensive restaurants.

If you do go to an inexpensive restaurant don't use ice cubes, eat salad or eat sea food, it's not safe, if you go to a nice restaurant then it's reasonably safe.

You may want to visit your doctor before you go to get the pills for Montezuma's revenge which is what you get if you drink or eat anything that was made or washed in unfiltered water.

By the way silver is dirt cheep in Mexico and it's more pure then anything you can buy in the US so if you like silver knock yourself out in Mexico.

Have a safe and fun trip!
