Cancun Memorial Day Weekend...is it safe at black beach week for white people to go?

I asked a questions earlier if it was safe for white people to go to Cancun for Memorial Day and got a few concered responses. I am not racist by any means....dated a black men for the last 10 years. But I found out it is Black Beach week in Cancun memorial day weekend after I booked my trip. i just want to make sure that it is safe for us 2 white females and if we will get any relaxing time or will it be party central 24-7. Also just wondering if we are allowed to go to the black beach week events for is it strictly for black people.

Black beach? WHAT? we don't have race issues in Mexico, nor black or white beaches that I know of. Beleive me, were are not caucasians either! and most people accept all races specially in tourist areas such as Cancun.

I have never heard of what you are saying, but if you know for a fact that there will be a lot of black people around some areas, go to other areas, it is a medium size city and a big country.

We have been going to Cancun at least 1 week ea. year for over 20 yrs. and I've never heard of Black beach week

My answer is still the same. Cancun is for everyone all of the time...and by no means will the place be filled with nothing but black beach goers!!!

There will be Europeans, Mexicans, South Americans, Central Americans, Asians, Middle Easterners, Canadians, Americans and list goes on. All colors, races and creeds "ALL" of the time.

Cancun is big enough for everyone. Hope this eases your concerns.

I'm a travel agent and I've put together the packages for a lot of the people going to Cancun for Black Beach Week or the Jump-Off as it is also called.  That being said, I am also African American and can give some good input.  Cancun is pretty much party central year round.  Big holidays will always draw a large crowd, so there will still be a really good mix of people down there for that weekend.  As with all travel destination during busy times just apply the normal amount caution.  Don't go anywhere alone with anyone, watch your drinks, etc etc.  Also, since most of the activities are in the northern part of the Cancun Strip is should be fairly easy to avoid any activities/people that you don't want to be around.  There are plenty of quiet areas and plenty of night clubs and bars that won't be part of the event.  Last, don't play into the hype.  Most of the people going for the jump-off are young professionals and even couples.  I would be more cautious going there during college spring break as Cancun has the highest rate of accidents etc during this time.  There will always be shady people looking to take advantage of big events like this but the majority of people are just there to have a good time.

Well not calling you racist my dear-its just that you've watched one too many a film with Caucasian girls being attacked by crazy, ghetto, Black Folks! LOL

I would say to you-it does not matter where you are going for Spring Break-It doesnt matter the race of the people you'll be around. They will be hyper, drunk, disorderly, loud, and aggressive. That is the atmoshpere you want to go to. I dont know if you'll be able to relax.

More likely, there are going to be men yelling at you both daily to take your tops off-because that is "their" perception of you- A crazy, from the farm, White Girl, who wants to "Go Wild" and be a s**t for the week.

Its just sad that we have these preconceived notions of eachother.

Be careful-there are people out there who dont care about your well being-they can come in many forms/colors/colleges-even the women will hurt you.

Dont trust anyone with your drink, purse, or body!

Depends on the area you stay in, if is close to the hotel zone (senor frogs and coco bongo) area things can get pretty wild, i was there last year didnt realize it was black beach week, anyways i saw a lot of ladies get groped just walking down the street, also if you plan on wearing a s**y bikini like a thong be prepared to get surrounded by a lot of guys with camcorders, it just like any other place you go where they have a big celebration (like spring break).   It gets wild.   But Cancun is great we love it there,  we just try to avoid spring break and black beach week.   not our kind of party.
