Cancun vacation. Is it better to book a car? Can we drive there?

is it safe to stay in a hotel at downtown? can anyone suggest me a nice and economical hotel? I am planning to book Air+hotel from orbitz . Is it better to book a car ? What would be the better way to go around for sight-seeing ? Any other suggetions appreciated....

I can't recomend a place, b/c the place my parents went to isn't there anymore. But don't rent a car just take a taxi...b/c it is easy to get lost and then it gets really scary. Hope this helps some.

It is better to take taxis,shuttles, buses(not recommened), because if you drive you do not know the signs and etc

i just returned from cancun, great time. no need for a car, the buses are actually very effective and save you $. you should check out http://www.travelcusehotels.com to book your stay. the site is an aggregator which means it takes offers from various online sites and shows you the best deals. good luck

Book a private room at one of the Hostels downtown, they are clean and a great value. You can find them, reserve and get ratings from previous guests at www.hostelworld.com

Do you really want to stay downtown? Or would you rather stay in the hotel zone where most of the activities are? It is safe to stay at the hotels in the downtown area.

If downtown then Las Margaritas or Radisson Hacienda Cancun. Downtown is less expensive than the hotel zone! If in the hotel zone there are dozens of good places to stay. Personally I am fond of the Palace resorts; stay at one and use the facilities of all.

No need for a car. Public transportation is plentiful! Most of the major sites are a bus or ferry ride away.
