  1. Don't drink any tap water.  There is bottled water everywhere though.  The hotel I stayed at supplied the guests with small bags of ice that were purified and most restaurants will have purified ice.  As for your food question, depends on where you buy the food.  Food handling standards in Mexico are far worse than in the U.S.  Things we cringe at are everyday practices there.  But saying that the chances of you getting sick are slim so just don't think about it.  The nicer the restaurant, the cleaner the food in most cases.

  2. I would not drink the water, you can get GIANT jugs of water (I'm talking like as big as a young child) at Wal-Mart for only a few dollars. Ice is fine, however. The food really depends on where you go. I never had too much trouble when I went, though the Rainforest Cafe gave us moldy bread.

The only water I drank was in the Hard Rock Cafe, because our waiter said it was ok and I trusted him....Probably a dumb idea, but it tasted good, hah. Not smart of me though.

  3. I never had any trouble with the ice, but did NOT drink the water. The food was really disappointing, but we didn't get sick or anything.

  4. Cancun is very tourist-friendly and it is perfectly safe.  All the major hotels and restaurants cater to tourists so everything is very clean and sanitary.  I would not drink tap water in your hotel room, but they will have signs up reminding you.  If you at an all inclusive, then there will be plenty of bottled water provided.  The ice will be made from purified water.  Have a great time and don't worry about it!!!

  5. What?

  6. Don't drink the water

  7. no no no don't take a chance with water there

  8. In the hotel drink only bottled water. Brush your teeth with bottled water. The tourist and hotel restaurants are sloppy because they know they won't see the vast majority of customers again. Eat only the cooked food, never fresh fruits or vegetables, drink bottled water or canned soda  and you'll be OK.

If you eat at non-tourist restaurants you can drink the water they serve and put ice in your coke. The nice restaurant that cater to locals depend on repeat business and don't think that people don't talk if a member of their party gets sick from the food. There you can safely eat everything.
