I would like to take my husband for a romantic candlelit dinner.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Surrey, Thames Ditton area.

We won't be drinking (taking a couple of months off) so we can drive to a place if it's really worth it.

A good review is word of mouth, so tell me your fav's if it's in London it has to be special.

Thank you in advance you wonderful people.

  1. THERE IS a nice one at Henley

  2. Surrey is not well served for really top class restaurants as your question poses.  In the Good Food Guide you can find Drakes on the Pond at 5/10 in Abinger Hammer (1 star) and the French Table in Surbiton at 4/10, but this is below the 1 Michelin Star level that you are after.  If you can manage to come into South London then you could go to Roussillon in Pimlico, which has a Michelin star, or Chez Bruce in Wandsworth, which also has 1 Michelin star.  Both are good but Chez Bruce is buzzy and a little cramped, so maybe Roussillon would be a better choice.

Reviews of both and contact details are on my web site below.  For a full set of Michelin starred places see:

Finally the Petersham Hotel in Richmond has great views and is a little below 1 star level but is still very good.

Hope this is of some use.

  3. Try the Cloche Hat in Chobham or if you can go a bit further, the Hinds Head in Bray (Heston Blumenthal's pub next door to the Fat Duck).

  4. I'd say try the Ivy, it's well worth it for both the food and the experience and it is not as expensive as you might think.
