Candice Wall conquers Girls 50m freestyle meet - 2011 State Teams Age Short Course Championships
Candice Wall conquered the preliminary rounds of Girls 50m freestyle in the 13-14 years old class on the first day of the 2011 State Teams Age Short Course Australian Championships. The session concluded on Saturday, September 17, at Australian Institute
of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
The 14-year-old champion dominated the qualification rounds of her age group, by submitting a time of 26.00 seconds for the top fastest spot. She was trailed by Jemma Schlicht of Victoria, who occupied the second fastest qualification spot by reporting in
a time of 26.10 seconds. Schlicht managed to out-touch her following swimmer, Lauren Rettie, who entered the final with a third finest qualification time of 26.28 seconds.
Lucy Soden of Victoria transpired as the fourth fastest qualifying swimmer of the event by posting a time of 26.30 seconds. She was trailed by Sophie Taylor of New South Wales and Lizzie Gannon of Queensland, who qualified as the fifth and sixth fastest
swimmers, with timings of 26.37 and 26.49 seconds, respectively.
Moments later, Jayke Rees of New South Wales captured the fastest qualification spot of the equivalent event in 14-15 years old Boys category. Rees clocked a top ranked time of 23.52 seconds. He was followed by Jack Currie of Victoria, who remained just
0.07 seconds slower than him and qualified as the second finest swimmer with a timing of 23.59 seconds. Ryan Parker of Queensland was just 0.03 seconds slower than his former finisher and entered the final with a third fastest time of 23.62 seconds.
In the meantime, Parker edged out his following swimmer, Andrew Walker, with a margin of 0.02 seconds, as Walker qualified in a time of 23.64 seconds. He was chased by Lachlan Wells of Victoria, who claimed fifth fastest spot of the event, by ending his
swim in a time of 23.67 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd enjoyed the qualifying efforts of all age group swimmers, while these participants will compete with each other in the final rounds to secure a podium finish.
