Candie Kung keeps her hopes up despite losing at New Jersey
Candie Kung knew that she was heading into a difficult competition on Sunday at the Sybase Match Play Championship, but she never thought of putting up a tough fight against her rival, Azahara Munoz.
Kung, who belongs to Taiwan, was one of the most underrated players before the start of the prestigious event, but did more than the spectators and fans had expected.
Speaking to the media at the end of the tournament, at Hamilton Farm Golf Club – Gladstone, New Jersey, Kung said that she knew that playing against big names would be tough, but she did fine on most of the holes.
Kung added that she is not worried about losing the match, as it gave her plenty of confidence. On the question of what she plans to do in the upcoming events, the Taiwanese star shared that resilience has been her trademark, which has helped her in matches
before.
Speaking of how she has been playing in recent tournaments, Kung pointed out that she has been able to fix some serious flaws in her putting and swing, and now she is fully fit to face any LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contender.
“I've been playing pretty ‑‑ this was set up for the fourth week in a row that I've been playing pretty consistent and I'm feeling pretty good right now,” the 30-year-old said.
Kung’s game has seen a drastic change in recent months, as she had been struggling finding consistency in her shots. Thanks to rigorous training on the practice range, the superstar has boosted her strength to a greater extent.
“I feel like my game is back to where it's supposed to be. I haven't been playing this consistent like four, five weeks in a row in a while, and I'm happy to see where I'm at right now. And I'm going to continue to work on what I've been working on earlier
in the year and hopefully I'll be able to finish consistently”.
Having racked up five professional titles, Kung has shown that she has what it takes to bounce back after performing a worse-than-average game. She has been particularly well on the LPGA Tour, with four victories.
