Candle Wax?? Ok at the risk of sounding like a dumb question.?

What type of wax are Catholic Candles made out of?? I noticed that the prayer candles that I see in many relatives homes in the the glass vessels is always soft and fragrant. By contrast the candles used in the Jewish Shabbat is hard and has no sent at all. Is the wax of the catholic candle mixed with a rose oil or something like that? I am curious and have not found a good answer on line.
