Candle colors??

Question

Where did the idea of colors indicating different uses originate? I see it all over the place;telling you what color to burn for a specific ritual. Can you explain why the color of the candle has an affect?

Is there a meaning for light purple?

I've seen purple candle meanings but I can't find one for light purple.

Everything has energy and color has specific energies for specific colors.  When you are doing a spell you are trying to move the energies in the direction you want so the more evocative the spell the more effective the magick.  You can use white in a pinch for any spell.  You can also reverse the color of the candle by turning it upside down and burning it that way.  Cool, huh.  

Light purple would be the same as the darker purple unless you find a personal meaning.  Blessed be.
