Candlesticks?

when looking at green/red sticks, why are some not filled (just the rectangular outline).

I assume you mean the last candle in the chart?

The reason it is not filled is that the candle is still active. Soon as the next candle in that time frame comes out, the previous unfilled candle you were watching will either be green or red, depending if it closed higher or lower than where it opened.
