Candrea and Citizen Advocate headline the Grade 3 $500,000 Delta Princess
Bob Baffert is eyeing not only the Grade 3, $1million Delta Downs Jackpot for his male juvenile colt, Drill, as he will come in early at Delta Downs to witness his 2-year-old filly, Candrea race in the Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Princess which will be commenced prior to the Delta Downs Jackpot at Delta Downs on 19 November, 2011.
Candrea, the 2-year-old filly who is owned by Michael E. Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman finished a non threatening eleventh in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies to My Miss Aurelia, has done well prior to this particular race.
She will be the top contender in the 11 field Grade 3 Delta Princess n accordance to performances like a second place finish in the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita Park’s dirt course on 2 October, 2011, to winner Weemissfrankie who covered the distance in 1 minute and 42.92 seconds.
The Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes possessing grade 1 status might have other interests for Candrea in it, most probably a prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, but it didn’t turn out the way as Bob Baffert predicted.
The daughter of Trippi, out of mare Burn Brightly by American Chance, Candrea broke her maiden in her first attempt over at Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface at about five and a half furlongs on 7 July.
Moved on to Fairplex Park to participate in the seven furlong long Phil D Shepherd on 16 September, 2011, which the Bob Baffert trained filly went on to win after keeping Real Dream and Lasso from El Paso at bay to finish the race in 1 minute and 24.87 seconds.
Another filly that headlines the Delta Princess field is the David Vivian trained 2-year-old filly Citizen Advocate who is coming off a 4 race win streak.
Her last outing was in the My Trusty Cat Stakes on 22 October, 2011, which is the local prep for the Princess as she went wire to wire to score in the My Trusty Cat Stakes, and the filly remained unbeaten since 31 July.
