Candrea up for the challenge as she make her next start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies
Owned by Michael E. Pegram, Karl Watson, Paul Weitman, 2-year-old filly Candrea I another Breeders’ Cup prospect for the Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, who is pointed to run in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on 4 November, 2011, at Churchill
Downs.
The daughter of Trippi, out of Burn Brightly by American Chance, Florida bred Candrea, a Juvenile Fillies candidate for her conditioner worked in company with Lady Pecan.
Candrea turned in a workout for six furlongs and she completed the run in 47 seconds flat at Santa Anita Park on 13 October, 2011.
Candrea kicked off her career with a win in the maiden special weight race in her first attempt Hollywood Park under jockey Martin Garcia.
Under veteran jockey Martin Garcia, Candrea timed the 5 ½ furlong dash perfectly, defeating Made to Lover Her and Cascina on the way, who finished second and third, respectively, while Candrea aced the sprint with the winning time of 1 minute and 4.20 seconds.
Bob Baffert tried Candrea next at Fairplex Park race course, and that is where she paved a path toward the Breeders’ Cup, the 2-year-old filly was expected to be a heavy favourite to win the race.
That is exactly what she did, lived up to the expectations and on 16 September, 2011, she bagged the $ 50,000 Phil D. Shepherd Stakes at the Los Angeles County Fair.
After her auspicious debut at Hollywood Park, she topped the seven furlong distance at Fairplex Park with the winning time of 1 minute and 24.87 seconds, while Real Dream and Lasso from El Paso finished second and third respectively.
Looming large at Fiarplex Park, Candrea received a paid workout at Fairplex which Catapult her to a grade 1 race, and on 2 October, 2011, she was eligible to run in the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita Park stretching out to 1 1/16 miles from seven
furlongs in the last race.
She couldn’t manage a win as Weemissfrankie, got hold of her in the final furlong and pushed her back to finish second, as Charm the Maker finished third.
