I'm having a Sweet 16 (6/28/08). I've decided on a "candy, sweet" theme. Looking for "original" ideas for centerpieces, decorations, and favors. Very detailed would be best! Thanks!

  1. I went to a wedding recently where there was a table full of candy (kind of like pick-and-mix at candy stores) and you grabbed a to go container (similar to those chinese food comes in) and filled up your own favors! It was a really cute idea and you could always pick out the candies to match the color scheme of your party.

  2. thats a great idea....how about a dress made from candy for you to wear....google it....

this is the url of a dress made from candy wrappers.. :)

    Happy Birthday

  3. Crack-cocaine.

  4. I watch Food Network and they showed a great sweet 16 candy party. The cake was pink and not decorated but the table was full of different types of candy and everyone got to decorate a portion of the cake.  They had bags of candy to give away at the end and served pizza and drinks at the party.  I thought it was a terrific idea and the table was decorated in all pink with all kinds of sweet 16 favors to give to all of the guests.

  5. Candy Bars are very popular now.  Set up a table with glass jars of "penny" candy and let the guests fill little favor bags to take home .....   Chocolate Fountains are fun.  You can get small, inexpensive ones at Linen & Things or Bed,Bath & Beyond (under $40).  Guests would dip fruit, ladyfingers, marshmellows into the stream of chocolate  ...    Michael's craft store (or Hobby Lobby, or any craft/kitchen store) has tiered "trees" to put cupcakes on.  They probably hold 1 dozen each, and you can decorate the tree stand then.  Maybe wrap a garland around the stand, and stuff lollipops into the garland, with the cupcakes peeking out....    If you have Christmas tree balls that are shiny & solid, you can wrap clear cellophane around them, with ribbon around the ends, so that they look like giant, wrapped hard candies, and decorate the center of your table, or hang them.   .... Chocolate Brown and pink would be a good color theme for the party.

  6. Hah, sorry for this not being an answer, but this is a comment. Thank you so much for asking this question, I'm having a Sweet 16 party with the same theme (except I might have to get a bunch of healthy food since some of my friends have taken that one oath). Funny thing is my party is exactly one month after your party on July 28th, I hope you have lots of fun though and to everyone above, even though I'm not the asker, the suggestions above are really helpful (saves me a bunch of searching =D).

    EDIT:

Oh I do have a few tips though that are of some of the ideas I thought of today. Try renting a gumball machine (sugar free maybe for capability of more gum and less sugar =) ), or even if it's possible, a rainbow shaped plastic container that you can fill with skittles as a center piece or a gift for some people, then they really can taste the rainbow ha. Or even those ring pops and candy necklaces as gifts at the table. And if you want to award some door prizes at the end, get like a huge basket of some really nice candy and have people play candyland at their tables, gather up the winners for a final game and the winner gets that prize. Again though I hope you have lots of fun at your party =D.

  7. so original  I am going to remember this one when my 2 year old turns 16.  I just may copy it.  I guess you should pick a color scheme then select the candy from there. Do you want it to be just chocolate or other types of candy too.  What comes to mind when I think is using silver hershy kisses and twizzlers in some sort of a design. Maybe have  all the tables have the Number 16 made by kisses together (glued) with a section for a candle for light.  Wow this is such a great idea - you can go crazy  with it.  I think you may also need to look into support candies for building you center peies. You can make an entrance way canopy for pictures with candy.  SO much FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Oh how fun!!!

I love planning parties of all types.

I would start with the outside. Make it inviting as the guests arrive.

I would make my own very large lollipops. You can do this by using large poster board and cutting out large circles in different colors and then tack it to a wooden stake using a staple gun and then cover it with clear wrap and top off with some curling ribbon along the bottom. Line your pathway or lawn with these.

Bright primary colored balloons all around.

I would have the movie Charlie and the Chocolate factory or the music Cd from the movie in the background playing. It will set the mood and get people thinking about Candy!!

You can do for fun candyland games out where people can win a cute prize of special candy.

As a going home treat you can get special M&M'e printed out or do your own candybars wrapped with special printed Birthday labels. These you can do at home by yourself.

You could have a chocolate fountain where they can dip in fruits, marshmellows, pretzels, cookies, etc.

Make cupcakes and just have a bunch of different candies out where everyone can decorate their own cupcake. This is easier than a cake.

You could also do ice cream sundaes in sugar cone cups that are dipped in chocolate and let them put all kind of sprinkles and goodies on the top.

Centerpiece I would do a large vase with colorful M&M's with larger lollipops coming out of it.

You can have a treasure nut with hershey kisses. Attached the hershey kisses to a cute shape of paper and hide all over the house or outside and go on hunts.

Do a Pinata. These are no only for kids, but fun for adults alike.

You can do lickable wallpaper. You can either do wrapping paper with fruit on it or make up your own and melt jollyranchers in different flavors and paint onto the paper. This is always fun.

Dots of paper are fun to decorate with too.

You can make garlands out of wrapped candies by taping them together and stringing them around the room. Also can make candy necklaces or bracelets.

You can also take lays of flowers and tie candies onto them and as each guest comes thru the door you can give them one.

I would have regular food. You don't want everyone getting sick at your party-hehe.

You don't have to do all of these ideas, but pick and choose.

Oh also you can make a candy pizza- take your sugar cookie doughmix and put into pizza pan and cook. Top with chocolate frosting and cut into pieces for everyone can decorate a piece with candy.

  9. I did this for kids party once. You take some spoons and take some hard candy like peppermint butterscotch etc.  Put the candy on the spoon and with a ball of foil prop the end of the spoon up so that its somewhat level and put them into the oven just until they get soft enough to mold  take them out and right away take another spoon and press the candy down so that it shapes the spoon

I have the recipe for this here at home but i found this online it basically the same thing but you can use any hard candy you like even jolly ranchers

When your don take a Styrofoam  and place them inside to until you got the look you want. Then you can cover the base in anything you like more candy, etc

This looks really nice and colorfull as a center piece. Everyone was asking me how i did it. Good luck and happy sweet sixteen

  10. For Centerpieces I think it would be cool to get those big swirly lolly pops and put them in a vase with some colorful flowers.  Or you could get a tall thin vase and fill it with colorful candies like mand m or mike n ike and you could put 2 or 3 long stem flowers in that. For favors, you could get chocolate molds and see if you could fine numbers and do the number 16 in different colored chocolates.  Or even molds that look like candies.

  11. for centerpieces:

    -candy trees-

you'll need a couple bags of lollipops (prefer clear wrapped ones)

go to the craft store and get 12" styrofoam cones

    get some colored ribbon

stick the lollipops in the cone until covered

    decorate with ribbons

I got the idea from the bottom tree on this page

    http://www.kreationspecialties.com/trees...

    -fountain sundae-

get those old fashioned ice cream sundae glasses (they have plastic ones at the party store)

fill with shredded mylar grass, like you use in an easter basket

use a glue gun to glue pieces of hard candy wrapped in colorful wrappers and coloful ribbon, stick a couple of bright colored straws in

    attach a bow

voila! it should look like this

    http://sendcandyflowers.com/sf001.html

    -candy bouquet-

get four boxes of the theater size candies (like junior mints, twizzler bites, goobers, etc). Glue together to make a vase.

    Fill with candy

    like this:

    for decorations:

use lots of colorful ribbon and balloons

make your own lolipos from posterboard using colored paint, decorate walls with the lolipops

you can also make big pieces of bubble gum in the same way

the possibilites are endless!! just have fun with it!

    for favors:

    toothbrushes! ha - just kidding...

fill little containers or bags with candy

or give out huge fun pops like these whirly pops
