Question:

Candy machine in the workplace?

K, does anyone know if the company you work for, that has candy and soda machines, earns commission on the items purchased by the employees? I'm sure there's some sort of plus for vending companies to have their machines and products in your workplace. I need to know, please.

Because then it would explain why every item I buy out of the outdated machine (doesn't even take bills!!) that contains chocolate, why it is a melted mess even in friggin' winter time. I'm starting to suspect this commission thing I explained because the company I work for is a very small chain that I imagine couldn't afford to house better quality vending machines that would keep chocolate candy bars and such chocolate products intact.

This all does not work out for a chocolate fiend and I don't know who to complain to. My workplace or the vending company.

  1. Usually the company housing the vending machine contracts out to a vendor who stocks the machine.  The company you work for probably gets a commission.  The machine itself is owned by the vending company (you will probably find a plaque somewhere on the machine saying who the vending company is) and usually the size of the company where you work would have no bearing on the machine itself.

I would contact both the vending machine company and your employer.  Tell the vender about the problem with the chocolate items and ask them to do something (maybe an upgraded machine with some cooling hardware?).  And see if the company you work for can put a little pressure on the vending machine company.  It might even help if you supplied your company with names of other vending machine operators as sort of pressure they can use against the current vender.

  2. vending company.  The company makes money off vending machines but it is ultimately up to the vending company to fix problems.
