Canelo fight announced for December
Mexican prospect and lady-killer Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will look to snatch his 35th victory against former champion Lovemore N’dou on December 4 in Cancun, Mexico.
CEO Richard Schaefer spoke to Fanhouse.com and said, "Canelo is going to be fighting in Cancun, Mexico, on December 4. It's going to be televised by Televisa in Mexico, and I'm working on finalizing the U.S. television hopefully within the next week or two.
The opponent, based on what I've heard from our matchmaker, Eric Gomez, is going to be Lovemore N'dou."
Alvarez fights at 154 pounds (junior middleweight). He is coming off a spectacular knockout win against boxing legend Carlos Baldomir, whom he faced on the 'Sugar' Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora undercard in Los Angeles recently.
When contacted by Fanhouse, Gomez confirmed that N’dou had been locked in as Canelo’s opponent.
Alvarez is widely acclaimed as the next big Mexican prospect. He fights out of the Golden Boy stable. Many have compared his charisma and huge fan base in Mexico to that of former champ Oscar De la Hoya. In Mexico, Alvarez is already a famous superstar.
Against Baldomir, Alvarez scored his 30th straight win, and his 11th knockout in 12 fights. He managed to halt Baldomir before the final bell for only the second time in his career. Baldomir had previous gone the distance with the late
Vernon Forrest and mega-star Floyd Mayweather Jr.
N’dou, 39, is undefeated in his last three fights and is coming off a split-decision win over previously unbeaten Bongani Mwelase in September.
N’dou (48-11, 31 KOs) is a legitimate contender who showed in his last bout that he has a little gas in the tank. He has never been knocked out, and has fought long battles with the likes of stars Miguel Cotto, Kermit Cintron and Paulie Malignaggi.
