  1. Yep.  They increased the meat content and diversified the carbohydrates.  Part of the brown rice was replaced with peas, millet, rice bran, and barley.  It's advisable to switch over gradually between formulas over at least a week to avoid stomach upset.  Though most dogs have no problems with the ingredient change, some, like my Boston Terrier, have an allergy or sensitivity to one of the added ingredients.

  2. This issue was discussed at one of my dog club meetings.  The information that I received was that the change in formula was due to costs.  They are adding cheaper ingredients.  It was also mentioned that now they are using ingredient from countries other than the US. (China?).  I haven't been able to check on this yet.

A lot of the people I know that have been feeding Canidae have been having problems with the new formula.  Gas, loose stools,  dry coats and others.  Many are changing foods now.

Keep an eye on how your dog is doing on the new formula and ask others who use it before you make a decision.

  3. Looks like Bindi and Abbyful have said it all.  I feed Canidae but I haven't gotten a bag of the new stuff yet so I'll see when I get one if it agrees with my boy or not.  I know that in my area, Canidae's price has risen $2 a bag in the past 2 months.

  4. From Canidae:

What we improved in our holistic formulations.

Meat has always been the first ingredient in all of our products, and now we have added more meat! By diversifying a small portion of our carbohydrate structure we were able to actually lower all carbohydrates, and increase our overall meat content. You will find the main source of real meat protein listed on the label of every bag of CANIDAE All Natural Dog Food and FELIDAE All Natural Cat Food. From the addition of fresh lamb meat to our Canine Lamb and Rice formula, to the increased lamb meal in our All Life Stages formulas, our new formulations continue to reflect the most recent advances in pet nutrition. In addition to brown rice, we have diversified the complex carbohydrates in the formulas to include cracked pearl barley, rice bran, peas and millet for added flavor, nutritional value and easier digestion. These improvements to our CANIDAE All Natural Dog Food and FELIDAE All Natural Cat Food dry formulas have only been made after extensive formulation, nutrient and palatability testing.
