Cannavaro looking to make history with win against Villarreal: UEFA Champions League news
Napoli skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paolo-Cannavaro-c29080, believes that the game against Villarreal is exactly what he had dreamt of playing as a child.
The Italian side will take on the Yellow Submarine in the last Group A game of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League at the El Madrigal on Wednesday, 07 December 2011. Walter Mazzarri’s men need only one point to qualify for the knockout round of the competition in their return to the Champions League.
The Partenopei side is favourites to qualify for the next round as they will take on the struggling Spanish side, which has lost all of its five matches thus far. On the other hand, their closest rivals, Manchester City will face group leaders, Bayern Munich in their match.
Cannavaro believes that the spirits in the camp are very high and his team will remain focused until the final whistle. The Italian added that they will concentrate on their own game and will not rely on the result of Manchester City game.
“We will be concentrated only on what happens on the pitch, so we won’t even have news coming from the bench on the result in Manchester.”
The 30-year-old added that a win in this match will be a huge step in the club’s history and the build up to the game makes him so proud to be part of the club. Napoli returned to the Champions after 21 years and they are desperately looking to go beyond the group stages of this year’s competition.
“We know this match is part of history, the kind that as children we dreamed of playing. The lead-up to this game is great for me both as a player and a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 fan.”
The former Parma defender believes that the Partenopei side has grown a lot this season and it can be known by the results they have picked up against few of the top sides in the world.
“We’ve become aware of our abilities. This season we’ve faced the strongest teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 and Europe. Our growth is shown by the respect our opponents have for us.”
Napoli have picked up 8 points from five matches thus far, while Manchester City have picked up 7 points from same number of games.
