  1. fried salmon patty w ketchep

  2. I'd say mix it with some hot mac n cheese.  Don't all kids love it?

  3. Have you ever thought about trying to make like Salmon burgers/patties.  You don't have to eat it on a sandwich.  Its good with some sides and a dipping sauce.

  4. Make some pasta, flake the salmon, and mix in veggies that he likes. Broccoli and tomatoes are what my son liked with his, you can also add a little dressing of some sort. I used Olive Oil, Lemon Juice, and a little salt and pepper. He went crazy for it.

You may also try just baking a piece with seasonings and such on it and let him try it that way.

  5. I would try mashed potato, and soft veggies! Not onions! or mac salad!

  6. Salmon Patties (baked, mind! - Not Fried) would be ideal for your child, but if you are going to use Canned Salmon, remember to check it through for bones, which you will find in most canned Salmon.

A better bet would be to use some fresh salmon (professionally filleted) and just steam it to keep the goodness in.  Flake it well, and mix with some mashed potatoes with a little milk and butter. Add something like peas and probably a few fresh or dried herbs like Dill or Parsley as a mild flavor.  Try serving with a little white sauce or parsley sauce as a softener to assist with moistening.

For a salad (English style), you need to keep it light - something like lambs lettuce, diced tomato, maybe a little cucumber if your son likes it and a little reduced fat mayonnaise; add the salmon, but try and keep it separate from the rest of the salad, in case he doesn't like it.  That way, you still have the rest of the salad which you don't lose.

  7. If your child is 16 months then the words "he doesn't like" or "hates those" are ridiculous statements.  If he is hungry he will eat.  You should encourage your child, especially as we have the obvious liberty of the Internet we have the liberty of food at our disposal, by insisting that he will eat things that he perceives he will not like.  He needs some ground rules, but a Macaroni Salad or Farfale Salade would be a perfect way to introduce him to red salmon.  You could try to add some red or green peppers (Capsicums not Chili) maybe some baby tomatoes, a little cucumber and maybe a little chervil or chopped parsley.

  8. why not make a salmon caserole....same as a tuna caserole but use salmon instead....cook macaroni, strain, add one can of mushroom soup, one can of salmon (or two depending on the size of caserole) mix well together in a caserole dish, grate cheese on top and bake for 30 minutes....he will love it...

or you could just buy  salmon filets, and cook them up in the oven, make sure all the bones are out and mix with rice and butter, soya sauce...yummy

  9. Since he's developing his tastes now, its great you are introducing it, and considering mixing it into other things.  Although Im curious, on why canned - thats pretty full of sodium.  Dont know if they sell low sodium ones.  Another suggestion is make yourself salmon, if you dont want to waste it in case he wont eat it, and share.

Ive also found, where I like a filet of Tuna, I cant stand the canned - or when its canned tuna in a salad, as it has a fishier taste.

  10. My kids liked salmon patties. for them I would drain and debone the salmon, add 1 egg and enough dried bread crumbs to make the patties. (you get 4 per can) just pan fry them.

My neice loved these too, she liked to dip them into ranch dressing-(the white sauce of choice for the preschool set!)

I always served with a side of carrots (raw for additional dipping) and mac and cheese.

  11. My kids love "fish cakes"   use canned salmon and add salt pepper bread crumbs cracker crumbs and an egg.  Mix all together and shape into patties.  You can bake them or fry in a small amount of oil.  They like them either on a hamburger bun or just to dip.  Good with ketchup or tarter sauce.  You can also bake it into a loaf pan like a meatloaf.  Fish cakes are a huge hit in my house!!!
