Question:

Canned squid labeled as clams?

I wanted to make clam chowder today and bought some Chicken of the Sea canned minced clams. What came out of the can was squid, you could see the heads and tentacles and everything. YUCK! I checked the label, and it said clams. Anybody else had this happen? Other than complaining to their Consumer Affairs department, what else can I do?

  1. Sounds like an "oops" moment.

Your reaction makes it seem like you don't like squid. Too bad. There are many, many good squid recipes. One is Thai: marinate the squid in the juice of 3 lemons or limes and 8 or 10 THIN slices of red onion and a pinch of cayenne (optional) for 1/2 a day, then drain 'em and add a few cilantro leaves and enjoy ... that's called 'Yum Squid' and is a common appetizer.

If you don't like squid, most cats in the world would love them.

  2. I have never had this happen but perhaps you may find a telephone number on the can or perhaps take it back to the store and ask for a refund if the same cashier is there show them they will know if you bought clams and your receipt probably says clams also!
