Cannnot chang the screen display stays on wide...

we have a vizio 37" hdtv and we just purchased we have the hdmi cable installed along with our hd box from our cable provider we cannot not change the screen view is is always on wide does not change to normal or the other panoramic view.we can do this from the remote . what could be the problem
