Cannon Video Camera Question?

Question

I have a video camerea, the Cannon Digital Video Camcorder ZR700, which records onto DVC tapes. I do have the cable for the camerea, but whenever I try to connect the camerea to my computer, all that shows up is an empty file. I need a way to be able to get the video recorded onto the cassete into my computer so I can turn it into a dvd. Does anyone have any suggestions or help that they can offer?
