Cannon ball thunder or lightening struck something

Question

I am in the eye of a severe monsoon thunderstorm right now and suddenly there was a very strong almost blinding flash of lightening followed by the loudest boom I ever heard, my dogs are still shaking and the boom was really close. Did lightening strike something or was it just really loud thunder?
