Cannon fs100?

Question

I have the Cannon fs100 camcorder and when I tried to upload it to my computer, it's a .MOD file, which I can only use to watch the video, but I need to edit it.

I have windows XP

and I'm going to use windows movie maker

I'M ALSO going to have to edit using a MAC

with iMovie

So, if you can tell me how to make it work for both of those.

I tried just renaming the extension, and that didn't work...

Hello:...

just a note at first  - you can NEVER fix video format by renaming the extension. Even files basically identical such as VOB (from DVD) and MPG (coded in mpeg2 DVD format) cannot be changed by renaming their extension, because even if those two files have identical video/audio content, they do have different file header and extension renaming would not work. And "mod" is not even identical with other formats.

It is some special format (I don't wanna use the word "stupid" but that's exactly what I think) which is used by some manufacturers on some of their models. God only know why, since majority is using regular MPEG or AVI formats.

There are steps, how you can convert the video into something more intelligent to work with.
