i bought a cannon mini dv camcorder for christmas and i recorede some videos , the camcorder did not come with the neccessary cables required for me to transfre the files onto my computer , when the cable came , we STILL did not have the right things , so i ordered some card to put into the back of my computer , i installed it and hooked it up to my camcorder and it still dident work

when i plug the firewire up to my camcorder i hear a "DING" on my desktop but nothing happens after that , nothing pops up , i tried to go to windows movie maker where it says "capture from device" or whatever , even though its hooked up it says it there is no device hooked up etc.

so , what do i do to transfer the videos to my pc ???

  1. There should be a switch in your camcorder which will transfer data through your firewire port. You should refer to your camcorder manual for this, and turn on this switch to make successful data transfer from your camcorder to your computer.

  2. The answers you seek are at the Canon support site for your camcorder!! There should be drivers, software, and a manual for you to download. See the link below>>>

  3. Try switching your PC off, connecting the camcorder, switching it to play and then booting the PC.  You should see the camcorder listed in Windows Explorer under Scanners and Cameras.
