  1. go to your device manager and make sure that the usb ports are enabled

  2. Try going to your control panel and selecting System, click on your hardware tab and and select device manager. From this screen you will be able to scroll down to your usb controllers, expand it by clicking the plus sign on the left, you will be able to either see a red cross or a question mark (possible conflicts), if you see any of these right click on it and you will be able to update the driver which should fix any issues, if nothing is marked try puting your utulities or windows disk in to load possible missing files.

  3. If you are using Windows XP:

Try right clicking on "my computer" select properties, hardware, device manager, and look for the universal serial bus controllers. If they are NOT crossed in red or have question marks on them, right click on each one and select uninstall. The controller will disappear. When all have been done, close down the computer and restart. This will refresh the drivers for the ports, and should re-enable them to work

  4. Have  you recently reinstalled windows, if so have you installed your motherboard software. If not do so and the USB connection should work.

  5. Have you tried all available ports?

Be more specific, what actually is or isn't happening?

Edit : Have the USB ports ever worked and now stopped?
