  1. If you are talking about the sewer clean out, then you could pull a toilet up in the basement.

you could use a catch basin if you have one (sewer lid in backyard or on the side of your house)

you could install one on the 4 inch black pipe drain or 3 inch pvc

its the pipe you will see in your basement

if it looks steel and black and about 4 inch around

then make sure it connects to the bottom of your 1st floor toilet

if it does then thats the correct pipe

you could get sewer plans for your home for 2 bucks

from city sewer department and install one in the basement

some people just use a gutter drain

just remember its like a straw

its not complicated and does not matter where you install it

just that you do have one

    so you can rod it.

  2. are you on public sewer  or private septic  ? is the piping going out cast iron  , pvc or some other material ,  more info would help in trying to determine where a clean out maybe located .

  3. 1-2 feet above where it goes into the ground or basement floor . But check from there into the house for a clean out .

  4. I just did this. Our house is 15 years old and has no basement. We have a uni-directional clean-out located in the front of our front window, and needed to find where the other was to snake out a problem.

In CA  they are required by law - after 1988 to put an S on your curb where the main clean-out is located. Look there to see if you have one. Ours was in the middle of our lawn and the grass hid it.

Draw a line from one toilet to the next, and look in the flower beds at the end of the line (front or back). If they are not there, then look at the side of the house the toilet are on - you may have a bi-directional there.

If you still can't find them - you may have to call a plumber to find them - they may not have been installed in a standard method.
