Cannot get iPod to play on TV?

Please help I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong when trying to play my TV shows and movies from my iPod on my TV. I bought a Maxell brand AV cable and have plugged everything in where it is supposed to go. I also set my TV Out to on. I am thinking the problem is that I do not know what input to have on my TV for the videos to play. Is it supposed to be Video 1 or something?
