  1. I am not sure if you have Verizon Wireless near you but it is my understanding that they use the phone lines for additional cellphone reception.

Signals for cell phones and satellite dishes require a line-of-sight between the transmitter and receiver, meaning that you would need to be able to "see" one from the other with no intervening objects. Objects like houses and trees won't completely block a signal, but something massive like a hill certainly will.

    People in areas like yours sometimes have to mount television or other antennae on towers to gain the line-of-sight to the transmitters so they can receive the signals. Not much you can do about cell phone coverage unless there is a tower that is not blocked by a hill.
