Cannot keep rear in saddle when trotting?

I have ridden several horses, but have trouble keeping my rear in the saddle when trotting or cantering. I keep my heels down, sit up straight, but bounce every step of the way. What am I doing wrong?

  1. I do the same thing everyone does, now im not the expert but heres my opinion. I know that there is a sitting trot, and posting, posting is moving up and down with the rymth of the horse and the sitting trot is moving with the horse going up when the horse goes up, going down with the horse, either way your still are going to have your rear come out of the saddle, so I'm not sure which one you would prefer posting is more comftorable, for any more info contact a local barn where classes are available and maybe they can give you tips, or google it.

  2. This is the horse racing section. The Pets>Horse section might give you more/better responses.

  3. cut off its johnson then that'll keep him in-line

  4. are you riding English or western?  If you are riding English you should be posting when you trot, when you canter you need to squeeze with you inner thighs to help keep you there and relax and do not slump over if you tense up it will make you stiff and you will never keep your rear down.
